About Skype for Business

NUS has upgraded Cisco IP Telephony system to a new Unified Communications (UC) system based on Microsoft Skype for Business (SFB) solution, for NUS staff use. Compared to Cisco Telephony System, SFB provides our users with a unified communication and collaboration platform, and with the following key functions:

  1. Unify communications in one application for common services, such as Instant Messaging (IM) chat, presence status check, audio, video call, and on-line conferencing and document sharing.
  2. Enhance Telephony services with the support of different physical phone sets and the use of soft phone.  All existing telephony functions are retained in SFB, including DID extension number.  You can make calls via normal hard phone, or soft phone in your computer with built-in microphone/speaker or a headset.
  3. Support bring your own device (BYOD) with smart or mobile devices. Your NUS DID number now follows you wherever you go, and you can use SFB with Internet connection to call back NUS staff without incurring IDD charges.
  4. Enable the integration with Email and calendar for voice mail and conference scheduling. You can now easily access your voice email via your Inbox and schedule online conference via your calendar.
  5. Support integration with commonly used applications including Microsoft Office (Outlook) and SharePoint.  Using your Outlook email, you can easily start an Instant Message session with your colleague(s), or click a contact to start a voice or video call.
  6. Support federation with other institutions, and calling with Public Skype application.  Using SFB contact search function, you can easily add public Skype user contact into SFB and conduct audio/video call.
