What is NoSpamMail?

NoSpamMail is an anti-spam service that acts as a gatekeeper for NUSmail system. In our current NUSmail infrastructure, we are leveraging on Trend Micro anti-spam Service to filter the incoming spam and phishing emails from internet and deliver it to spam folder in your inbox.

How is NUS IT fighting again spam?

NUS IT is continuously fine-tuning its methods to keep spam away from your inbox. To combat spam and phishing attacks against NUS, we are implementing a new anti-spam solution powered by Proofpoint to complement the current Trend Micro anti-spam system, taking advantage of both systems’ spam filtering intelligence to better detect and block unwanted emails and malwares, e.g. virus, spam, phishing, spoofed email etc.

What is Proofpoint?

Proofpoint is a powerful enterprise email security application that integrates virus protection, spam and phishing detection technologies. The product inspects more than 200,000 message attributes. Once examined, legitimate messages are routed to your inbox while suspected spam is quarantined by Proofpoint. Proofpoint has a high success rate at detecting spam.

What do I need to do?

You will receive an end-user digest via email twice a day at 7am and 4pm, notifying you of the spam email detected and quarantined by Proofpoint since the last digest. You will only receive the digest if the system has detected and blocked any spam email.

From the digest, you can release any email that had been quarantined, which will be delivered to your mailbox.

You can safelist/blocklist a sender or preview the spam message via the End User Digest by clicking the “Manage My Account” link and logging on with your NUS-ID and password.

Spam filtered by Trend Micro will still be located in your inbox spam folder. So please check your Spam regularly.

All of us need to do our part in the fight by ignoring phishing emails that ask you for account details such as your NUS-ID and password. Stay vigilant and refrain from revealing sensitive information to unknown parties via email, website or other channels.

1. Lower risk of responding to unsolicited email and unintentionally exposing private information.
2. Drastic reduction of the chance that a NUSmail account (possibly including sensitive or personal information) will be compromised and used to launch a spam attack.
3. Fewer disruptions caused by external domains (e.g. Yahoo, Hotmail) blocking email received from NUS as a result of spamming from the compromised account.
4. Less clutter caused by spam and phishing in your inbox.
