Richard N. Katz, vice president of EDUCAUSE and founding director of the EDUCAUSE Center for Applied Research (ECAR) was invited to NUS on 16 September 2009 to give a talk on “The Tower and The Cloud”.

The talk examines the evolution of higher education and the evolution of ICT. It suggests a number of important trends associated with each, and with these trends, there are contradictions and possibilities. The audience were asked to reflect on how the evolving network of new capabilities might envelop and alter the university and the higher education industry, and conversely, how the modern, place bound university might use the network cloud to alter and enlarge the university’s footprint locally, nationally, and even globally?
