Congratulations to our NUS IT National Day Awards Recipients 2021!
19 Aug 2021
We are proud to celebrate the achievements of 17 of our NUS IT colleagues who have been honoured at the National Day Awards 2021. The National Day Awards recognise various forms of merit and service to Singapore, and are awarded by the Prime Minister’s Office.
Among them, we are thrilled that Mdm Kwong Mew Yuen, Senior Manager at NUS IT, has been awarded the Commendation Medal. The Commendation Medal (Pingat Kepujian) honours distinguished and commendable performance, conduct, competence and devotion to duty.
At NUS IT, Mdm Kwong currently operates in the Research Group under the Faculty and Research System (FRS) Tower. She manages projects such as the Laboratory Materials Management System (LMMS) and Laboratory Materials Purchase Requisition System (LMPRS) using the Agile project methodology.
It was a pleasant surprise to Mdm Kwong when she was informed that she might be receiving the National Day Commendation Medal award and she felt very honoured to receive this award.
“I have learned so much from the LMMS and LMPRS project teams I worked with and this award is a testament to their contribution as without them, I would not have been able to receive this award,” said Mdm Kwong. “I am very grateful for the nomination and appreciate the recognition given. It was a privilege to work with all my wonderful colleagues in NUS IT and I treasure the relationships fostered.”
Mew Yuen expresses her gratitude to Shui-Min, Chin Hwa and Kia Meng for their support, guidance and mentorship. She added a note of thanks for the collaboration from her team.
Mdm Neo Siew Hoon, Laboratory Technologist at NUS IT, was also accorded the Efficiency Medal (Pingat Berkebolehan), which honours exceptional efficiency, exceptional devotion to duty or work of special significance.
As a system administrator from the IT Shared Services System team, Mdm Neo is mainly responsible for patching, hardening, operating, maintaining, supporting and planning for the smooth and secure operation of the departmental servers. Through the effective use of the System Management and Automation tool, she consistently engages users and collaborates with a diverse group of stakeholders in NUS to ensure and sustain high systems security campus-wide.
Mdm Neo expressed her surprise and delight at receiving this award. As keep-the-lights-on operations are often completed at the back-end, it was a big encouragement to be accorded this recognition.
“I am really glad that within the NUS IT team, we understand and support each other with the best effort we can to iron out and resolve issues that pop up,” said Mdm Neo. “Last but not least, this award would not have been possible without recognition from my bosses. Thank you Boon Leng and Shui-Min for making that possible.”
Additionally, 15 of our NUS IT colleagues have been honoured with the Long Service Medal (Pingat Bakti Setia) for their years of dedicated service, which is no mean feat! Congratulations to the following recipients:
