Congratulations to all our Summer 2021 NUS IT interns and supervisors for a successful Internship Showcase!
With the aim of engaging and collaborating with NUS students, NUS IT welcomed its first batch of interns in 2019. At NUS IT, interns are assigned to impactful projects guided by experienced NUS IT staff, giving them an opportunity to gain tangible working experience.
This year, 16 interns joined NUS IT as part of the NUS IT Intern Summer Programme. Students came together from different faculties, skilfully adapting their knowledge and expertise to the field of IT with the help of their supervisors.
“The focus is on making sure that there is a good learning experience for all, that our interns would experience what an IT department is like, and experience solving real-world problems with different kinds of technical solutions,” said Chief Information Technology Officer, Ms Tan Shui-Min, in her opening address for the showcase.
The NUS IT Internship Showcase is a bi-annual event where the department comes together to celebrate the achievements of our interns. In every showcase, the spotlight is on our interns to demonstrate their prowess in how they have used their knowledge and skills to provide IT solutions.
On 28 July, the NUS IT Internship Showcase for the Summer 2021 programme featured 9 projects. Our interns proudly presented to Ms Tan, Mr Ng Tiong Beng (Director of Infrastructure) and the panel of NUS IT Heads. They brought their work to life through dynamic and engaging virtual presentations, drawing an audience of over 100 NUS IT staff.
The interns took to the virtual stage to present their work on the following:
• Development of Digital Trainer for NUS IT Service Desk
• IoT Connectivity Automation Solution
• Interactive Environment for Data Science & ML in the Cloud
• One-Stop (Admission/Graduation) Service Portal
• Single View System (of NUS Facilities Booking Portals)
• REC/HPC Website Redesign
• Containerised Hybrid Cloud Environment for Research Computing
• NUS Shuttle Bus Analytics, Metadata API
• Development of a Mobile App for Medical Students

At the end of the event, the interns also had the opportunity to reflect on their past 3 months with us.
“My biggest success was that I was able to learn and introduce new ideas that completely shifted the way our project was headed, granting me the liberty and validation of owning the work that I’ve done,” remarked Caleb Goh, a Year 3 School of Computing student.
Upon completion of our Internship Programme, NUS IT Interns are issued Digital Badges. These badges are authenticated credentials that interns can display on their LinkedIn profiles to exhibit their achievements.
We are proud to see our interns adapt and flourish amidst a backdrop of challenges in the global pandemic situation. Should they choose to return, we will welcome them back to NUS IT with open arms!
To date, NUS IT has engaged over 80 interns across 60 projects through its Internship Programme. Applications for the next round of internships will open in September 2021 on NUS TalentConnect. Follow us on social media to receive updates on our Internship Programme!
