First IHL in Singapore to implement Facial Recognition Door Access (FRDA) on campus
Sep 2019
In Sep 2018, we became the first institute of higher learning (IHL) in Singapore to implement Facial Recognition Door Access (FRDA) on campus. This solution was rolled-out to our i4.0 building, a 6-storey building home to NUS Smart Nation Research Cluster. In addition, FRDA was also implemented in 2 levels of University Hall, where our senior management offices are situated. In all, FRDA has been deployed to 38 doors!
With FRDA, staff can access secured premises by simply presenting their faces. Upon verification by the facial recognition engine, the system will release the door catch for the staff to enter the premises. The entire process takes mere seconds and offers new levels of security and convenience.
While stringent enough to differentiate a live person from a photo replica, the engine is intelligent enough to disregard aberrations such as varied hairstyles, head gears, eye-wear, and even mischievous faces with tongues stuck-out! Indeed, our experience with facial recognition has been positive. With this, we are all set to roll-out more solutions integrated with the facial recognition technology.
