ABAQUS is a suite of finite element analysis software for computational mechanics modelling and simulations. The main analysis modules are ABAQUS/Standard and ABAQUS/Explicit. ABAQUS/CAE is the integrated graphical interface to the software for pre- and post-processing of data. The analysis modules will also run well on multi-processor systems and supports parallel computations.
ABAQUS/Standard is a general-purpose, finite element program designed for advanced linear and nonlinear engineering analysis applications. The program features very general geometry modeling capabilities (two- and three-dimensional continua, beams, membranes, shells, trusses, cables, gaps, etc.), a large library of materials (isotropic and anisotropic elasticity, visco-elasticity, hyper-elasticity, hypo-elasticity, foam elasticity, plasticity, metal plasticity, visco-plasticity, soil plasticity, reinforced concrete with cracking and crushing, etc.), and a broad range of procedures (static and dynamic stress, transient and steady-state heat transfer, fully coupled temperature/stress, fully coupled pore fluid flow/stress, large eigenvalue problem solution, Riks method for unstable post-buckling response, impact solution, acoustics, super elements and substructuring, etc.)
All of the response-history procedures offer automatic time-stepping. The program is designed for ease of use on complex problems and has a simple input language with comprehensive data checking, as well as a wide range of pre- and post-processing interactive (output display) options.
If you are analyzing a large problem and if a large value is assigned to the parameter NUMBER OF INTERVALS in *RESTART and *FILE OUTPUT, a large output file will be generated. This may lead to “disk full” in the common, shared filesystems such as /hpctmp or /hpctmp2 and other jobs in the compute servers will be badly affected (these jobs may be terminated prematurely as most of them are also using the common, shared directories).
To avoid this, all users of ABAQUS/Explicit are requested to make use of judicious number(s) for NUMBER OF INTERVALS and keep your output file sizes minimum. You are also requested to remove the output files from /tmp area soon after your use. In case of any special needs for disk space, please contact the HPC administration at nTouch.
