NUSNET6 – FAQ

NUSNET6 - FAQs

GENERAL

The upgrade covers the entire campus network infrastructure for enhanced security and performance. The upgrade starts with backbone network devices, followed by access switches and wireless access points in each building.

We will also be upgrading the campus wireless network to support Wi-Fi 6, providing faster and more reliable wireless performance.

The upgrade will be implemented across the campus from 2020 through 2022. Please refer to the schedule here.

Yes, we will inform each department of the scheduled change and upgrade activities in advance. This is to minimise the service disruption and transition you smoothly to the new network.

Wireless: You may access the wireless network as usual. You do not need to reconfigure network settings to access the upgraded wireless network.

Wired: Please refer to the next section on how to access the wired network.

ACCESSING THE CAMPUS NETWORK (WIRED)

The campus network requires all computers or devices to be authenticated. The authentication can be done when you log into the network or by pre-registering your device in a database. You may need to configure your wired devices for this authentication.

To prevent unauthorised access and improve network security, we will be performing network configuration changes to your department’s PCs, servers and other wired-connected devices.

    1. For NUS issued Windows machine, you do not need to do anything. The network authentication will be enabled automatically.
    2. For personal or non-NUS issued Windows machine, refer to this link on how to configure your computer.
    3. For your Mac or Linux computers, refer to this link on how to configure your computer.

If you require further assistance, please contact the NUSNET6 Project Team at nusnet6@nus.edu.sg or 6516 2484.

Submit a request through nTouch (Static IP Address – Create) and provide the device’s MAC address, device type and other information. If you need any help, please contact the NUSNET6 Project Team.

No, there will not be any change on your servers or other systems that are using a fixed IP address. We will contact you separately on the transition from the current network to the new NUSNET6 network.

Submit a request through nTouch (Static IP Address – Edit) and provide the device’s MAC address, device type and other information. If you need any help, please contact the NUSNET6 Project Team.

For security purpose, each campus network point only allows one device to connect. If you need to connect multiple devices to the campus network, please use separate network points, or contact our NUSNET6 Project Team, so that we can advise you accordingly.

NUSOneClick is a customised tool that will automatically configure the new network settings in your computer so that you do not need to configure the settings manually.

NUSOneClick will update the configuration on your wired network adapter to prepare your Windows PC to connect to the upgraded network. No other changes will be made.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Some computers or devices require a reboot to resume network connection after the network has been upgraded. Please reboot your computer or device to resume the network connection.

The network upgrade involves the change of computer IP address. If you have any RDP issue after the upgrade, please contact the NUSNET6 Project Team at nusnet6@nus.edu.sg or 6516 2484.

Yes, this is normal, as we have improved the authentication process during the computer boot-up. After the boot-up, your computer will function as usual.
