I am an experienced high-performance computing practitioner with genomics and meta-omics research background. I have had the opportunity to build and manage multiple large-scale computing infrastructures for commercial and research laboratories during my career. In addition, I have co-authored 40+ scientific publications and posters in various scientific fields, such as software algorithm, database, high-performance computing, bioinformatics, human genetics, environmental and microbial genomics. While I’m not keeping busy, you can often find me slowly jogging along the Zhenghua nature trail or playing Kerbal Space Program with my sons.
Starting by overclocking a Pentium in my youth, I always have a fascination with getting my computer to go zoom-zoom. It’s probably not surprising that while I have worked in fields unrelated to it in my earlier career, I got drawn back when I tried to make a system fast enough to run my genome analysis. I guess that’s when I decided to make it a significant part of my career. Do what you enjoy, and you won’t have to work for the rest of your life. And if my system help produce a result that pushes the boundaries of human knowledge just a little bit, that’s the dream, isn’t it?
