You would be familiar with uNivUS, which is NUS’ gateway app connecting NUS staff, students and alumni with useful information and services. This app can be customised to suit each individual, providing a seamless, mobile experience that enhances campus life, as one transits from being a student to becoming an alumni, a staff or a lifelong learner.
What are the new and enhanced features in uNivUS in 2022?
The uNivUS Inbox provides an alternative channel to communicate with students. It supports Application Programming Interface (API), which is a software intermediary that allows 2 applications to ‘talk’ to each other and integrate with other NUS systems. Students can follow or unfollow various feeds, depending on their interests. For example, they can follow uNivUS Updates to get the latest news on what’s happening or follow NUS Enterprise and apply for global entrepreneurship opportunities offered by NUS Overseas Colleges. Students can also get reminders on events they have signed up for, and outstanding tasks pending their action such as filling up a survey form. In the case of emergency situations, messages may be sent to students to alert them.
The Event Aggregator provides a list of events for the NUS community, such as movie nights, charity drives, briefings and etc. There is always something for everyone and it makes it easy for users to see what is happening within NUS. They can also select to sign up for current and upcoming events. This promotes a more vibrant and engaging campus life and encourages participation in these events.
This year, we onboarded Alumni to uNivUS, making it a platform that truly ‘unites individuals’ across NUS. After logging in, members of the alumni can explore the myriad functions available to alumni and stay connected with NUS. Some of these features tailored for the alumni community include alumni events, perks and publications, whilst general features available to them include lifelong learning, NUS library portal, NUS NextBus app, NUS Carparks app, and so on.
The Student Peer Supporter Chat (PSS) provides a dedicated Chat channel to support student wellness as well as to connect a student with fellow students. Students who are feeling down, stressed or need a listening ear can access the PSS to see a list of active or inactive chatrooms. They can proceed to choose a chatroom that has an available Student Peer Supporter and ‘claim’ that session to chat.
With the uNivUS’ mini-app framework in place, like-minded citizen developers who seek to contribute their innovative ideas to the NUS community can use the platform to build and publish their apps under uNivUS’ Explore function. This allows them to showcase their creativity and reach out to the uNivUS’ user base. Some of the mini-apps include Health Declaration, NUSafe and Crowd Insights.
