The NUS IT Strategic Plan sets the roadmap for the next 5 years of innovation and technology leadership. It carries 4 strategic goals, namely:
The Digitally-Empowered Business goal focuses on Research, Education, Administration as well as Digital Fluency. In these areas, we amalgamate the best of technology and bring unchartered dimensions to the education realm. We create ambitious goals for strengthening our institutional computing capability and expand the data storage service to provide a robust and secure infrastructure to match our researchers’ resource requirements. We will define the future of work through the transformation of digital services, while we strive for distinction through the moderation of administrative systems.
We started with the Digital Enablement Programme in 2019 and will continue to drive the University’s digital literacy from a state of “Digital Awareness” to that of being “Digital Fluent”.
Our Flexible and reliable infrastructure will focus on supporting computing workload with agility, scalability and anywhere-anytime access to IT resources, and it is also set to achieve environmental sustainability. Defending the walls that protect our digital assets, we aim to build a cyber fortress that reinforces our cybersecurity posture through people, processes and technology.
Through talent acquisition and retention, NUS IT will develop an IT workforce of the future – one that is empowered by competencies and capabilities to meet the challenges of the future. In talent development, NUS IT will continue to invest in staff development and build interdisciplinary competencies to become a true-blue versatilist who can traverse the deepest problems and produce creative solutions.
Immersive technologies were available some two decades ago, but was predominately used in digital games. NUS IT, being an early adopter of immersive technologies, had worked closely with academics to create award-winning innovative teaching pedagogies based on augmented and virtual technologies. With the advent of metaverse, we are thus well poised to harness the potential of this emerging technical platform to revolutionize education and research.
NUS IT will create a NUS metaverse where teaching, learning, working, and social interaction can take place in a three-dimensional digital world. Specifically, in NUS metaverse, we can offer:
We aim to pilot launch NUS metaverse by 2024 to be the first university to offer a unique education proposition in the digital realm and establish a virtual global student population within 5 years.
