A new integrated SAP Business Suite 4 (S/4) Hana Finance system platform that came with best practise Finance and Procurement capabilities, faster analytics insights and simpler user interface for Finance users was launched on 17 January 2022. Its overall integration with various NUS satellite systems is also improved by adopting the SAP Cloud Platform Integration (CPI) solution, which connects these systems and allows for real-time data exchange amongst them.
By transforming the current NUS Admin & Finance system into a Best-In-Class leading global Finance function, users can enjoy a powerful new architecture, along with its bundle of processes, policies, controls and insights with the technology refresh. FS2 has resulted in consistent, simplified, scalable and high-performing system functionalities. Users benefit from increased efficiency and productivity through process automation and standardisation – for example, automated approval workflow has reduced unnecessary touchpoints and physical routing of invoices across departments. Users can also enjoy flexible reporting with the ability to extract reports at the highest to granular level (such as by Module, Segment, Faculty, School, RIC, RCE, Department or Funds). As a whole, NUS has become more agile, responsive and resilient to changing business requirements through this scalable and sustainable Finance platform to support NUS’ rapid growth in service demands.
It was not an easy digital transformation journey. From FS2’s conception till it went live, massive effort was involved with over 100 workshops conducted to capture the requirements and design the future FS2. It involved close to 150 representatives from Finance, Faculties, Schools, Research Centres and various departments.
The BPC platform is integrated with the FS2 platform and covers annual budget exercise which includes submission, evaluation, finalisation of budget, forecast, virement, supplementation, manpower projections, capital budgeting, and all funds-related reporting. It boosts greater flexibility and efficiency to have the annual budget exercise integrated with the finance capabilities and functions.
The BPC system went live on 5 July 2022 and is currently used NUS-wide for the FY2023 budgeting cycle. We are proud to say that no critical issue has been raised since it went live.
